Zandam Italian cheeses are crafted to the highest standards, using recipes and techniques handed down for three generations. Mauro Delle Donne, the grandson of Celestino Delle Donne who came to South Africa more than half a century, ensures that the proud heritage of Zandam Italian Cheese lives on today. 

Our cheese is perpetually perfected according to the most innovative technology in the field of authentically crafted Italian cheese.

MOZZARELLA

One of our most versatile cheeses, Zandam Mozzarella is crafted for the South African palette. Firmer than Mozzarella Fiori Di Latte, our Mozzarella is ideal for salads, but also achieves the perfect melt for pizzas and hot dishes. A firm cheese, with a mild taste and a soft creamy colour, it can hold its own on a cheese platter, paired with fresh slices of tomato and basil pesto.

BOCCONCINI

As a soft, unripe Mozzarella-style cheese ball made with Jersey milk, Zandam Bocconcini is ideal as an appetizer. Marinated with olive oil and fresh basil, used in salad or as the star of your antipasto platter, this soft, mild and milky cheese with its pure white colour and pull-apart texture will uplift any dish and give a true taste of Italy.

Mozzarella Fior Di Latte

This pure white authentic Mozzarella style cheese, crafted from Jersey milk, is as Italian as listening to Puccini while driving a Ferrari around Monza. With its soft pull-apart texture and fresh, unripe creamy flavour, Zandam Mozzarella Fior Di Latte is perfect for a classic Caprese salad, or as the star of your Pizza Margherita.

BURRATA

Burrata is a modern Italian cheese made from Mozzarella and cream. It has a solid Mozzarella shell, filled with Stratciatella (fresh Mozzarella shreds soaked in cream). This gives Zandam Burrata an unusual soft texture and is perfect for topping pizzas, pasta dishes, or served as an antipasto with fresh bread and slices of tomato.

Scamorza (Smoked Mozzarella)

Our Scamorza is a crowd-pleaser like no other. A firm and mildly creamy Mozzarella is delicately smoked to enhance its taste and give it extra depth of flavour. Zandam Scamorza is perfect sliced, as part of a cheese platter, or used in cooking, where the heating process will enhance the smoked flavour, adding richness to your meal.

Provolone

Need a cheese to up your toasted sandwich game? This is it! The tangy sweetness of our Zandam Provolone will have your friends in awe and your family craving cheese toasties every day. A good slicing cheese, Provolone is perfect for a cheese platter paired with fragrant preserves or fresh fruit. Our provolone also goes well with smoky braaivleis and will be perfect for a braaibroodjie with red onion and chutney.

Pecorino

A matured hard Italian cheese, our piquant Pecorino will enhance any of your signature pasta or meat dishes. Pecorino shavings go well with salads, and grated pecorino can add extra flavour to pizza or baked pasta dishes. Never have a bland lasagne again! Zandam Pecorino can also be enjoyed as a stronger eating cheese, and goes well with spicy preserves, crisp apple slices and honey.

Pepato

The undeniable king of any cheese plate – our Pepato is a matured Pecorino with whole peppercorns added for an entirely new level of flavour intensity. The extra bite of the peppercorns makes this a wonderful cheese to pair with other softer cheeses and sweet fruits and berries as part of a cheese platter. A summer salad with strawberries will be instantly enhanced by shavings of Zandam Pepato.

Mascarpone

Mascarpone is the key ingredient in one of the most well-loved traditional Italian desserts. No Tiramisu can claim to be authentic without generous mounds of silken Mascarpone. Zandam Mascarpone is a rich, silky cheese with a firm spreadable texture and is best paired with fresh fruit, whipped into desserts, or as part of a dessert platter with berries, figs, and dark chocolate.

Ricotta

Rich, textured and versatile, Zandam Ricotta can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes. Our Ricotta is a fresh, soft cheese made from whey, with a creamy white colour. Its texture resembles that of a chunky cottage cheese, and it is high in protein but low in fat. Ricotta holds up well when baked into cakes and tarts but can also be flavoured with lemon, herbs, and olive oil for a fresh twist to your cheese platter. Perfect for use as a filling in pasta like Ravioli and Panzerotti.

Pecorino with chillies and basil

A modern twist on a true Italian classic. Our Pecorino, delicately infused with fresh basil and red chilli is a versatile cheese, ideally suited to South African style Italian dining. Bringing together the tangy natural taste of Pecorino, earthy basil and a hint of heat from the chilli, this is a perfect cheese for a cheese platter, or crumbled over roasted vegetables.

LOCAL PARMESAN

This is a three-month matured, medium-fat hard cheese with a mild to strong flavour. It is ideal over pasta, in cheese sauces and to add flavour to many Italian dishes and offered in finely grated form in sachets or as shavings.
